Cricut Craftroom Freebies

Hello again, it’s Freda from CannCreateDesigns here with two quickie projects using the Mini Books Project Cartridge and the Freebie Creative Cards preview that are free in the CraftRoom through the 20^th.

It’s my son’s birthday next month and even though no one else in the family drinks coffee he has developed a taste for it. When I saw the Starbucks Lovers Gift Box on the Cricut With Heart Blog at Christmas time I printed out the page and put it in my “to make” pile for his birthday.

Using the Cricut Mini Books Project Cartridge I cut the outside layer only of the exploding box on pg. 11, scored the fold lines and inked all the folds on the inside and outside. To make this project even quicker I used coordinating double sided paper from my stash so I didn’t have to cut any panels to decorate it. I also used a couple of leftover stickers from my stash for decorating the top.

 

I suggest that you put the thicker objects on panels across from each other and the thinner items on the other 2 panels, that way when you close up the box the folded “wings” have somewhere to hide without distorting your box. I left these “wings” in to provide support since the gum and cookies are heavy. I stacked pop dots on the bottom of the cup until they were tall enough to stick to the center of the box bottom. The empty panel is waiting for a Starbucks Gift Card. They were out of the Happy Birthday ones the day I was in there getting the cup, samplers and gum.

 

The Banner came from the Artiste chipboard and stamp set that came with the cartridge (pop dot it up to make room for the ribbon to slide under). The cut itself is on page 35 cut at 1 ¼ “. I used a coordinating VersaMagic chalk round the edges of the banner. Butchers string was used as a ribbon since it matched the ribbons on the paper.

Next I decided to make a card from the Creative Card Freebies. When I first saw the samples I thought they were a little too plain for my taste so I wanted to “bling” one up to see if I would like it better. The card on the right was just cut and assembled. The card on the left was embossed, glittered, inked and bling’d up.

The extra bling didn’t take too long so I guess this cartridge would come in handy to use in a pinch when I needed a card quickly.

NOTE: I sized the card in CraftRoom to be a 4 ¼ x 5.5 and only cut the layers. I used up some of my stash of 8 ½ x 11 cardstock cut in half for the bases of the cards instead of cutting them on the cricut and I have tons of envelopes. Skipping those items saved a lot of time making these cards.

Fall Mini Album

Happy Fall Ya'll !   This is Debbie O'Neal aka ScrapHappyDeb of Debs Electic Thoughts Blog. Our Cricut FANatics October theme is  FALL  (Halloween, Fall, Thanksgiving projects of any type).  Our designers, of course, are free to share any type of project in October but I wanted to show you a FALL project.

I just love the colors of fall...warm reds, orange, browns, tans, etc.  Plus Fall items always seem to have a lot of texture too don't they?  So my project is a Fall Mini Album album I made recently for a swap I was in on the Circle MB.  I tried hard to incorporate the feeling and texture of fall in to it.

I used the new Mini Books Cricut Cartridge to create the mini album base. If you haven't bought this cartridge yet, I am issuing an enabling alert !  LOL   You will want to own this cartridge after seeing how easy it is to make one of the mini albums included.

I selected the Mini Book Accordian Album on page 13 of the handbook. The assembly directions are on page 27 of the handbook.

 

I wanted my book to be 6" wide so I cut it at 6".  But that meant that the length was longer than

a regular 12X12 mat so I used the 12X24 mat and a white poster board cut in half so I could make the cover as long as was needed.  

The cover was then folded at the scoring marks to create a 6 X 6 square.  Notice there

is a little tab where the open end of the cover is tucked.

Next I cut the three pieces at 6" that form the inside of the album again using the larger mat and poster board.  Once the three pieces were cut, you adhere them to create the accordian fold shown above.

Next I adhered one end of the accordian fold inside the cover. Then repeated with the other end on the opposite side of the inside cover.  This forms the base of your mini album.  It creates 8 pages for your book.

 

Now on the the fun part...decorating the mini album !

I used the patterned paper and journaling cards from the new Simple Stories Harvest Lane line.  Yummy colors and patterns in this fall line were perfect for my Fall album.  I covered the square album pages by cutting the patterned papers and solid colored cardstock into 5 3/4" X 5 3/4" squares and inked the edges and adhered to each page of the album.  For the outside cover of the album

I  hand cut the patterned paper for the curved piece of the album cover.  Where that little flap was cut, I used my exacto knife to make the slice in the patterned paper so it could still be used.  I put some jute twine in a button and then used a glue dot to adhere it to the little flap.

 As I mentioned above, I cut the squares of patterened paper and cardstock and adhered to each page to form the base.  I used some Washi Tape to adhere some of the cute paper embellishments and journaling cards to the inside of the album pages.

You can see here where I made sure an added the Washi Tape on both sides of the journaling card so that it now flips over in the book like a page.  I even added some Washi Tape as a bit of embellishment on the cardstock page.

I repeated the process of alternating cardstock pages and patterned paper through out the album and the journaling cards and Washi tape.

It was fun alternating the patterns and colors.

On the last page I made a pocket out of cardstock cut from page 16 and embellished it with some Washi Tape.  Instead of the tag for the pocket, I used one of the SS Harvest Lane Bingo cards and added a button with jute twine to it for the free space on the card.

 

To finish off the cover there is a band that goes around the mini album.  I used a gold foil paper and the Autumn Type Cuttlebug folder to emboss it.  Layered some felt flowers I cut out with my Cuttlebug and used a button with jute for the center of the flowers.  I tied some just to the other end of the band to fnish it off. 

 

Since this project was for a swap, I also included the matching set of embellishment stickers and alphas and a baggie of embellishments so the receiver could add the final touches to the mini album to match the photos they put in it. 

 

I can hardly wait to make more mini albums using this cartridge !!!  Happy Fall Ya'll

An apple a day....

ʺHello, this is Terri of http://www.scrappinwiththebug.blogspot.com/. Today, I have an Apple Mini photo album to show you.ʺ I made these cute little apple albums for my daughter's pre-school teacher and assistant. I made these so they could put a small 3x3 photo inside. This album will hold 24 total photos, however, I only matted the one side.

I used only 3cartridges for this project.

Create A Critter - 2 Apples and worms with shadows function I hid the faces of the apples w/ the gypsy

Mini Book - Cut 6 of the Square  L2 cut for inside pages

Cricut Craft Room Basics - Rounded Squares (photo mats)

Scored all pages

Once cut I then scored the pages on the tick marks using a score board. Glue 3 of them together end to end. I simply glued the tab to the bottom of the next page. If you need more area for photos then cut out another page.

 I folded each of the pages in Mountain/Valley style or fan fold.

 Once folded then I glued the pages tot he inside of the apples. I glued some twine under the 1st page to make a pretty little bow. Hold down the album and carefully glue the back page on.

 Once the inside pages were glued down I added a red photo mat cut with Craft Room Basics for the mats. I find I like to use my machines to make the photo mats.

I then decorated the Apple shadow cut. I added the brown layer, then the green leafs, and the red apple layer. I added the cut little worm to the side with foam dots.

Cartridge Cut w/ Measurements:

Create a Critter Apples: 5 1/2" - cut 2 of them - one for each album w/shadow function & layers 

Create a Critter Worms: 2" - cut 2 of them one for each album w/ shadow function and layers

Mini Books - 3 1/2" Square L2 - cut 6 of them 3 for each album (unless you need more space for photos).

** A little tip - if you try to cut the L2 squares at 3 1/2" on the expression it will beep at you and say that it won't fit. That is because it is very close to the edge of the 12x12 mats. Here is a little trick - select the Mat Size 24 function  and still use the 12x12 mat. It will really cut almost to each edge so make sure the paper is 12x12. ***

Vacation Mini Album

Hi everyone! This is Angela of Angie's Paper Passion and I'm very excited to share the mini album that I created with the Mini Books cartridge. My son and his family went on a cruise last month and I wanted to make my granddaughter, Viviana, her own little book for her cruise memories. The Mini Books cartridge has many different options for those quick little books that you can make for yourself or for gifts. They are very easy to make and put together. I used glittered cardstock, ribbons, brads and pop dots to embellish my project.

I used a lot of other cartridges for this mini including Life's A Beach, Pack Your Bags, Traveler, Ole and Destinations. There were just so many cute cuts for a vacation cruise! 

There were some pages of the mini album that were cute but I felt that they were a little too small for this project. So I cut two each of the small pages and adhered them together to make packets for a larger tag. This gave me more room for photos and/or journaling. 

This mini also has pockets to hold all of those vacation extras like tickets and other souvenirs.

This project was so much fun to put together and so easy, too. I know that Vivi will enjoy completing it with her cruise pictures and memories. I have many more photos of the mini album on my blog with all of the cut sizes. Just go to Angie's Paper Passion.
