Vacation Memories

Good day all! It's L.B. from Cool Bean By L.B. and I am so happy to be part of the Cricut FANatics family. School may be back in session but many are still clinging to summer memories. In honor of making memories today I get to share two autograph books I made for a friend about to journey to Disney World for the first time. 

 For these two books I started with 2 5x7 albums by The Paper Studio. These albums have 24 pages and are just the right size for autographs and pictures if desired.

My friend's son is very into Jake and the Never Land Pirates so I selected the adorable treasure chest off Life's A Party. I cut it at 3.75" high to cover the center photo hole on the album. To add the Disney touch I cut gold coin Mickey Heads at 1/2 inch from the Disney-Mickey Font cartridge. 

Every princess needs a castle so for an adorable little girl's autograph book I cut one from Paper Doll Dress Up at 2.65 inches high. I placed the castle on a double layer of backing from Lacy Labels(4.3 height and 3.64 height)

I have made many of these autograph books for my own daughter and family friends. They have so much room to get the signatures you want and you can always add photos or stickers to them to capture the full memory.

Sketch Challenge #1

Welcome to our Sketch Challenge.  

This is Amy from Amy's Digi Scraps and welcome to the first of our Sketch Challenges!

On the 20th of each month, I will post a sketch for you to enjoy!  Then, I will post a card variation and Debbie will post a layout page variation.  Please visit the Sketch Challenge link for more information about our monthly Sketch Challenges.

For this month, and the start of our Sketch Challenges, I made a very simple sketch, primarily for a card, but can easily be adapted for a layout as well.  Intended to allow you a base to jump from, this sketch includes mostly blocking areas that you can change to be wording or images or embellishments.

My son just turned 17 and I needed a card to celebrate him.  He is a musician and has his own local band, so naturally anything music related would work.  Hannah Montana happens to be one of my favorite cartridges, and it is versatile enough to use for masculine cards and layouts.

For the electric guitar, I cut it in black and blue and sprayed two layers of Goosebumps to give it a glossy, textured look.  Then I layered the image and use a black fine tip pen and a silver metallic pen to add highlights and dimensions.

I cut "Rock" for the Hannah Montana cartridge, but I used the Old English font from Blackletter to make the "on" and welded a small flourish with my Gypsy onto the "n" so that it would match.  I used my silver metallic pen to highlight the letters.

I have two different thicknesses of pop adhesives.  I used the thicker one for the guitar element and the thinner for the words.

Inking with Close To My Heart ink pads was added around the card edges and the paper layer, which was distressed slightly with my scissors first.  (Silly me, I adhered the card form to the layers upside down and had to cut it apart and redo the card form - so check your orientation before adhering!)  Perhaps I should have used a slightly darker ink for the layer so that it would have popped a bit more?

 Hi everyone, this is Debbie of Debs Eclectic Thoughts Blog.  I love to take sketches and make layouts with them.  For Amy's sketch, I made it into a one page 12X12 layout.  (sorry the picture is a little off, I was having trouble photographing it at night and keeping the shadows off of it.)

To start the sketch process, I used a white cardtock base then added the bright orange cardstock to the center.  For the title/journaling spot on the sketch I used Birthday Bash Cartridge to cut out the Birthday Wishes title and Lacey Labels cartridge to cut the title background shape. Next I followed the sketch design and added some of the yellow polka dot patterned paper to the bottom to create that bottom block but instead of laying it over the center square as in the sketch, I layered it slightly under the center square instead and used it to anchor my embellishments for the page of various patterned papers cut into ribbbons and some buttons with twine. A couple of stickers completed the bottom portion.   After looking at the layout, I felt like I wanted to add a little bit of balance to create a stronger visual triangle between the title and lower embellishments so I added a grouping of patterened paper strips and a large button with twine on the upper right of the page.   The great thing about sketches is that they are a jumping off point for your design and you are free to change it up to make it your own design.  Isn't that cool about sketches ?

Hi Everyone! Happy Hump Day!

This is Kimberly Karl from imlosingitonceandforall with a thank you card created for a baby shower. I am currently expecting my first child and our shower is this Saturday so I wanted to get a jump on making my thank you notes since it's so easy to get behind on those!

I didn't get too terribly intricate on them as I had to make 30 and am trying to work on other projects as well. Here is the completed card and I'll show you how I did it.

First I used my Gypsy with the Elegant Edges cartridge for the center medallion so that I could make the most of paper space on my cutting mat. I used 3 of the layers from the Flower3 cut found on page 65 of the handbook - original layer, original layer plus shift and the Frame layer all cut at a height of 3.47 and I let the width calculate automatically. This is the cut on the bottom row, 5th cut in from the left on the keypad overlay. I used my Cricut Expression 2 to make the cuts. I choose the colors green, pink, brown and white because those are the colors we are using at the shower. Below you can see the first column are the cuts separately, the second is the white on top of the green and finally I added the frame layer.

I then stamped the center white piece with the top left stamp that says thank you from the Round Frames stamp set by Inkadinkado using the Green with Envy Powder Puff chalking ink.

The background is a piece of 5.25 inch by 4 inch brown paper from Recollections brand at Michael's. I used my Cuttlebug and embossed it using the Victoria Emboss A2 embossing folder.

I then took a 3/4 in white satin ribbon purchased at Michael's and wrapped it around the brown paper with a half inch allowance on each side so I could glue it to the back. I glued the brown cardstock to my card and then glued the medallion on top of it. At this point you could add some more sparkle if you wished to the little flowers in the stamp going all around. You also could use pop dots to add some dimension to the card.

Voila!

Hello everyone! This is Michele, aka dancingarden on the Cricut Message Board. You can visit my blog at Scrap - N - Dance!  I have created a layout for you with the Cricut Stencil material!

I wanted to go along with the "back to school" theme for the month but we will be homeschooling our son... however, I just started this year working part-time driving a school bus! My son gets to ride with me so we don't have to do any sort of day-care - what a great job perk!  So I decided I would do a page about me driving the bus (and my son riding along!).

Some of us Circle members got to use the Cricut Craft Room Exclusives for free during August! So I spent most of the past month and a half cutting things from those CCR exclusives, using my gypsy. In this case, I used the CCR exclusive Teresa Collins Basics, the honeycomb background, which I used to cut the Cricut Stencil material. I set it up on my gypsy to cut as large as it could on the mat, which you can also do on CCR.

Have you ever used the stencil material? It's SO EASY! I followed the settings instructions on the box:  Speed 3, Pressure 5, Blade Depth 6 and multicut 2.

The stencil cut perfectly! I actually cut two of these since the stencil sheet is 12x24, and gave one to a friend. :)

I used some spray mist (in this case, Ranger's Butterscotch) to spray the stencil and cardstock. Do you know the stencil has a sticky back? You just remove the backing and stick it to the cardstock (or other surface). It came right off the cardstock after I'd let it dry.  However, after I used this color, I realized it didn't "go" with my photos!

So I tried a different color, Glimmermist Jazz Blue. :)  This color was perfect for my project! I love that my stencil is re-usable!

I finished up my layout with Jillibean papers and stickers from my stash (I've been trying to use up my stash!), the title is cut from the Street Sign cartridge.

I hope you try out the stencil material! I loved working with it and I'm glad I have another package of it! :)  Happy crafting!

Operation Christmas Cards

Hello, it’s Freda from Canncreatedesigns.blogspot.com.  I have a card for you that I made for Michael’s Operation Christmas Card drive.  Between now and October 31^st Michael’s is collecting store bought or handmade Christmas Cards to send to our military forces so they can have something nice to send to their family members.

I have been seeing cards like this all over Pinterest and Youtube but they were all made with punches and dies that I didn’t own.  I decided to scraplift a “Cricut Version” of the card by Cathleen on the Crooked Creations blog.  I searched in CCR and found the leaves and oval I would need to create the pinecones and lettering.  I had to use the Foliage Nestabilities die for the sprig since I couldn’t find one like it listed in CCR.

Accent Essentials Cartridge: 

Leaf:  accnt42s - - cut 14 at .9”

Oval:  accent1s - - cut 2 (I used a circle made into oval by changing height & width to 1 x 2 in craftroom, if  you aren’t using craftroom pick any oval at 2”)

Merry Christmas:  cut at 1 ½”

 

Assembly Steps:

Step 1:   Cut card base  -  5.5 x 8.5

Step 2:   Cut white card front – 5.25 x 4.0

Step 3:   Cut the ovals, Merry Christmas, and leaves.  Ink the bottom edges of the leaves with brown ink.

Step 4:   Use the Blossoms Tool Kit or rounded object to “cup” the leaves.

 

Step 5:   Row 1- Glue 1 leaf to the bottom center of the oval.  Row 2- Glue 2 leaves overlapping the top 1/3 of row 1.

 

Step 6: Glue 3 leaves per row for the next 3 rows.  Use the last 2 leaves to cover the top of the oval.

Step 7:  Tie 2 bows with the ribbon, attach foliage and ribbon to the top front of each pinecone with a glue dot. 

Step 8:   Glue dot a piece of 3” ribbon to the back of each pinecone, arrange pinecones on the card front piece(leaving room for the Merry Christmas at the bottom corner) then wrap ribbon tail over the top and glue dot to the back of the card front.  Repeat with the second pinecone.

Step 9:   Glue Merry Christmas in place.

Step 10: Attach card front to the card base.  If you have a dark color card base cut a second card front, stamp appropriate sentiment and adhere it to inside area of card.

Cute Baby Shower Decor

Hi, this is Demita, mom2sidsquid on the CMB. Today I'm sharing a banner and diaper wreath made for a co-worker's baby shower.

The Wreath is 9" and was purchased at Hobby Lobby. It's covered with size 2 pampers. I cut the banner and layer from Something to Celebrate at 3.5" in CCR. It's a boy is cut at 2" from Cricut Alphabet Font 1 out of vinyl. Wrapped with twine and added gems to each end. I used beacon 3-1 adhesive to adhere it to the diapers.

Easton (funny she's the 2nd co-worker to name her son Easton) was made using 3" circles from Cricut Craftroom Basics and the letters were cut from the Cricut Craftroom Basics at 2". The elements added to the name were taken from an OLD baby boy scrapbooking kit I had.

 

The Banner was made using Pretty Pennants at 6". I used the Stork (Banner 4).

 

 

I flipped the bottom banner. The Letter Banners were also cut at 6" (scalloped Banner and top). Each Rosette was made from six 4.25" rosettes (Ribbon & Rosettes Cartridge). I glued them with Beacon 3n1 adhesive to 4" circles. The letters were cut at 3.5" from Birthday Bash. I used Baby Steps at 2.5" relative size for the remaining diecuts. Crinkle Ribbon was used to hide the jump rings that connected the banners together.

Assignments

Hello, this is Doreen from Polkadotpaperprincess.blogspot.com.  I made a clipboard folder cover for my daughter to carry her completed assignments back to school.

 I started with the plain folder we purchased for my daughter.  It starts out pretty plain!  You can use any type of book, folder or clipboard you wish. 

I placed a piece of designer paper good side down on the table and opened up the clipboard, putting the front down on the paper.  I then traced the opening.   

I marked the left edge of the paper and cut it.   This just made the paper easier to work with.  I then traced out the top edge where the clip shows through and then cut it a little wider and deeper than the trace.  You don't need to do this, but I wanted a little green showing up since it is my daughter's favorite color and it made a nice border.

Then came the the tricky part for me... glue!  I mod podged the clipboard and the paper.  I put the wrong side of the paper on the top of clipboard.  By gluing both sides it usually sticks pretty nicely.   I then took the brayer to make sure there were no bubbles.  Let dry.  If you don't let it dry before putting more on the top you can end up with air bubbles.  These can cause chaos!  I ruined my first one by being impatient and ruined the first (and only sheet I had) of paper my daughter really liked.  If you use spray glue you will only need to spray on the paper.  Do that where there is good ventilation or you will feel like you had a glass or two of wine!  *smirk*

While that was drying I began designing my items on my Gypsy and then cutting my items out on my Expression.  The girl is cut out from the Teen Scene cart at 7".  I gave her a mouth that was hand drawn.  My daughter didn't like her without one!

The word "Assignments" was cut out from the Divine Wedding cart at 1" and then I used my Gypsy to  "hide" parts of the letters to give a bit of a shadow since there wasn't one that came on the cart.  They are cut out at 1.1".

The owl was cut out from Hoot n Holler at 3".  I cut out extra circles in black and then cut them in half  to give him eyebrows.

The book was cut (2) from Every Day Paper Dolls at 7.16" on the Gypsy.  (Doesn't look 7" does it?  haha!)  You will need to cut one in the color for the book and one in white for the paper.  This is an older cart and it doesn't divide the layers up.  My daughter picked the words for her book from rub-ons we had.  We then took the white paper and ran a popsicle stick down it to make it look like pages in a book.

Where are the pictures for the cuts you say?  Hmmm, well I think my computer ate them!  Or my iPad.  I'm not sure which one is the guilty party!

Once the clipboard was dry, it was time to start adding the embellishments.   The mesh paper needed color behind it or it just got lost on the paper.  I had to put this down first to see where to place the girl.  Once that was place everything else went quickly.  I then added some bling.  I  made a bead chain and added a lock charm and some twine.  Spray sealed it.   Done!

It would be quite easy to add my daughter's name on the mesh.  I'll wait and see what she thinks! I wanted to add a lot of other stuff, but I didn't think she'd let me.   (After all, she is in grade 8 you know and they are very fussy!)

Back To School Night Banner

Hi Everyone! It's Colleen from Col's Creative Corner and I have a back to school project to share with you today. I cleaned out a bunch of papers and stickers from my craft corner to donate to my son's Art Teacher (well, since he graduated last June, I should say ex-Art Teacher) and decided to make her a little something to go with the packages. Back To School Night is this week, so we made her a banner to hang in the classroom for Thursday night. We'll be delivering it tomorrow to her.

I used my Gypsy to design the banner. The schoolhouse, chalkboard and pencils were cut from the CCR Exclusive Classroom: August and September. The School is cut at  6.2 x 4.9, the pencil at 2 x 3 and  the Chalkboard is cut at 7.6 x 3.6 inches. I used Hello Kitty Greetings to cut the Books and Apples. They are sized at 3.46 x 4.16 inches. The Apples with the silhouettes are from A Child's Year. They are 3 x 3.97 inches. I cut the silhouettes 3 times. Once in the red, once in brown and once in green. I trimmed around the stem and leaves on the green and brown silhouettes, then layered them on the apples.

 

 

 

I originally wanted to make a banner with just the cuts, but after arranging and re-arranging them about 20 times, I decided that the cuts needed to be anchored. I chose an edgy circle cut from CTMH - Art Philosophy and cut 7 pieces at 5.16 x 4.92 inches. I started out with patterned paper, but I quickly changed my mind and printed out the loose leaf paper from Imagine More Cards on my Imagine and re-cut the circles. I liked it much better.

I inked just about everything on the banner with Distress Ink and used a Sakura white gel pen for lots of accents. I also used a Gold and Silver paint pen on the school's bell, the silver on the pencils and a touch of gold on the book's binding. I ran some Jute Twine through the ends of the banner and adhered it to the back to hang the banner.

 

 

I am so happy that I was invited to contribute to this fantastic new blog. I want to thank Debbie and everyone else involved for all their hard work. Hi there everyone. Michele Kovack here from Thoughts of a Cardmaking Scrapbooker!  I am so excited to be sharing here with you!  I feel a bit "out of the loop" lately and am so happy for this opportunity to connect with all of you!  

 

As many of you know I am a teacher....a 5th grade teacher to be exact.  School is in full swing, and life has gotten a wee bit crazy!  Soon I will be back in a routine and it will feel like I never left. ; )  

So of course I had to make a school house.  A vintage school house at that! I used the new Something to Remember cartridge.  It is such a cute cartridge and I just fell in love with this image.  I love making shaped cards because I feel they are so much more interesting....so I welded the two school house cuts using CCR. I used all of the layers and added a bit of vellum behind the windows. 

Lace, seam binding, and a glittery wooden button were added to add a bit of charm....

And of course a flower....I can't seem to help myself from adding a flower to everything lately.

 

 

I am so glad to have had the opportunity to guest design here today....

Little Boy Goes to School

Hi everyone. It's Sherry from http://www.macybella.blogspot.com. It's back to school time and my little one started Pre-K this year. I'm so excited to share this layout I made for him with you. I used Echo Park's Little Boy collection for this project.

The first thing I did was cut forty-five 1 1/4" hexagons in lots of different patterns to build a road. I thought this paper was so cute because a little boy's road in life is paved with bright colors and so many wonderful things like cars & trucks, sailboats, and airplanes. Next I laid them out on the paper and played around with the patterns until I was happy. Then I started gluing them down. I used Winter Woodland for the hexagons, but there are hexagons on many Cricut cartridges.
Once I had my road built, I cut out a little red schoolhouse. I don't have Recess which has a really cute schoolhouse, so I converted the dollhouse on Kate's ABC's to a schoolhouse. I cut it at 5" in blackout. Then cut the accessories, trimming off the chimney. I used a jeweled brad for the doorknob. I cut the school bell from the Liberty bell cut on Stand & Salute. This was cut at 2" in metallic gold paper layered over brown. I distressed it in a metallic pewter for an aged look. Then I cut pencils from Everyday Paper Dolls at 3 1/2" for the windowsills. I cut these in golden yellow for the pencil and orange for the eraser, then trimmed the eraser off and glued it to the yellow. I used my Copic markers to color the rest. The metal is N4. The sharpened part is E31 and the tip is E25.
The photo mat is cut at 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" in navy and 3 1/4" x 5 1/4" in light blue. The smaller navy mat is 3 1/2" x 2 1/2". The cute little guy is my son, Noah. :)
Little boy is a sticker from the Echo Park Collection. "goes" are rub ons from October Afternoon. The "2" and "School" are cut and shadowed at 3" from Base Camp. I also used crystal stickles on the yellow part of school. You can see how I popped up the schoolhouse and number two for some dimension in this picture.

Then I created a little book from some of the cards from the collection and tucked it in behind the house. I will use those to journal his first day.
